The VT-Berlinetta chipset, a proprietary design, provides the Load Reduction and Rank Multiplication implementation for DDR3 HyperCloud memory modules.
Through strong system engineering and design capabilities, Diablo has delivered the world class silicon implementation necessary to address the rapidly growing memory requirements of virtualization, high-performance computing and database applications via the HyperCloud architecture.
HyperCloud breaks traditional memory speed and capacity limitations faced in DDR3 based server platforms, and the VT-Berlinetta chipset plays an integral part of this solution. HyperCloud allows up to 24 DIMMs per 2-processor-system to be fully populated, achieving the maximum density and greater memory bandwidth vs Standard JEDEC RDIMMs.
HyperCloud allows servers to scale to these memory levels by leveraging both Load Reduction and Rank Multiplication within the VT-Berlinetta chipset. Rank-Multiplication allows HyperCloud memory modules to present one virtual rank to the processor for every 2 physical ranks on the memory module. As an example, a 16 G-Byte Quad-Rank RDIMM appears as 16 G-Byte Dual-Rank RDIMM to the processor when using Rank-Multiplication.
Via proprietary and Patented design techniques, the VT-Berlinetta chipset allows interoperability with RDIMMs in the same channel. This permits end users to re-use existing install bases, and simply ADD HyperCloud DIMMs based on the VT-Berlinetta chipsets.
